Without the use of camera or light, Nicolai Howalt has been working with expired photo paper. Due to the age of the paper and the conditions in which the paper has been kept, the silver ions in the paper has started to cleave up and migrate.
In an investigation of the chemical process within the photographic medium, Nicolai Howalt has been working with expired photo paper. Without the use of camera or light, Howalt found that the silver bromide in the paper had migrated, causing formations and abstract shapes. The encounter between chemistry and aesthetics become reminiscent of the alchemistic tradition as well as an exploration of fragility and the state of constant change.
