BEST EXHIBITIONS OF THE YEAR
In 2020, the Kunstfonden will award 11 exhibitions that revolve around identity, existence and time.

Nicolai Howalt is awarded DKK 50,000 for the exhibition ‘Variations of Old Tjikko’ in Nikolaj Kunsthal.
Howalt is based on one photo he took of the world’s oldest tree, the 9,550-year-old spruce called ‘Old Tjikko’ in Sweden. The motif of the old wind-blown wood, he has rehearsed on the more than 80 photographic works and developed on different types of older photo paper. The exhibition constitutes an extremely complex space of reflection, which constantly sends the viewer in and out between concrete understanding of time and an infinitely deep, incomprehensible time dimension.
