Snowflakes, vegetation and human reliance on and the intervention of nature are at the heart of this Nordic exhibition, where the term ‘Poetic Storytelling’ is used as a benchmark in relation to exploring works by Danish, Icelandic, Swedish and Finnish photographers. The concept of ‘poetic storytelling’ has been further developed by curator Sigrún Alba Sigurðardóttir to describe a specific lyrical way of using photography as a narrative medium – in this case i.a. in response to the climate crisis.
Common ground for the exhibiting artists is that they are preoccupied with all the wonders – trees, heaths, rocks, apples and snowflakes – that encourage us to find new ways of being in the world; by relating to and interacting with it. They show us methods to open up to the world when we want to be influenced or to try to figure out for ourselves how, we can react or respond back when the world “speaks to” or touches us.
The exhibition is part of a larger Nordic collaboration and will first be shown at Fotografisk Center in Copenhagen 22.01-13.03.22, then at Landskrona Foto followed by Northern Photographic Centre in Finland during the spring 2023.
